A Coralville man is in line to become the first commissioner of the Cedar Rapids Airport Commission to reside outside Cedar Rapids. Subject to approval today by the Cedar Rapids City Council, Mayor Ron Corbett appointed to the commission Josh Schamberger, 36, president of the Iowa City-Coralville Convention and Visitors Bureau. "It goes without saying that the Eastern Iowa Airport and aviation play a critical role in economic and community development as well as quality of life," Schamberger said.

Mayor Ron Corbett has appointed a Johnson County man to the Cedar Rapids Airport Commission. Joshua Schamberger, 31, president of the Iowa City/Coralville Convention & Visitors Bureau, would be the first non-Cedar Rapids resident to serve on the five-member commission. His appointment is subject to the approval of the Cedar Rapids City Council, which will be asked to approve it Wednesday.

Most of the larger cities in the Corridor are experiencing a drop in hotel/motel tax revenue. A year ago, Iowa City was designated a United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization City of Literature. However, the Iowa City area has yet to realize the full potential of the designation it took officials three years to obtain, officials said. The University of Iowa might build an amphitheater or UI Marching Band practice field at the Hancher Auditorium site after the complex is razed. UI is considering a natural setting amphitheater with seats landscaped into the hillside, UI director of planning, design and construction Rod Lehnertz said.
